Extended description
My name is Veronika Kane and dying, dying was just the beginning.
How was I supposed to know that getting smashed on my 21st birthday would lead me to becoming the 9th victim of a serial killer that’s been stalking Philadelphia’s streets for months? Now I’m a ghost and unlife is pretty scary. Reapers, wraiths, ghouls, gargoyles: all of the monsters that I thought were storybook characters are real! On top of it all, the powers that be in the ghost world want to enslave me and use me in their own diabolical plot to manipulate the people of the living world. Too bad I didn’t turn out to be the kind of ghost they wanted me to be, and I’m not about to let them turn me into one of their puppets. These ghosts are responsible for my murder and the murders of eight other women.
A rebellion is coming, and the ghosts that run this place are about to find out just how big a mistake they made when they had me killed.
My name is Veronika Kane and being murdered isn't the end of my story.
Wail of the Banshees is an Urban Fantasy Novel and the first book in the exciting Ghost Wars saga which features paranormal horror and action set in living Philadelphia and the ghostly world of Limbo.
I gave "Wail of the Banshees" by Robert Poulin 4 stars. I'm from Philadelphia , "south Philly" and I would NEVER send my birthday at the "Electric Factory" it now sucks. I use to go there when a band I loved refused to play any reasonable spot, but the Troc, would be better than the Rlectric Factory. That said, I did really think the shadow world / limbo was cool.
Veronika Kane seemed... not really like a chick. If I was going to take 6 inch claws, I would refer to myself as "Lady Death" that's right fellow nerds ... Wolverine is not one of a kind... As even lesser beings now know because of The movies... Wrongly introduced, nope I'm not a book nazi;)
Anyways, the story was cool, "The Tormenter" a yucky thought but well thought out serial killer. The caste system of the ghost realm, the correct but dated use of Philadelphia landmarks, and that in any realm of living there is NO NEED TO EVER GO TO NORTH PHILLY! The humans are terrible enough, they need no nefarious help!
The story line is good and the book was entertains . I must admit the first 20 pages, after Veronika Kane's u timely, and why did her friends bail on her on her birthday? No women do that , not to keep serial killers away, but drunk creepers that try to get you to go home with them. Female, trained to kill, drunk.. Is as dangerous as a serial killer, on her 21st birthday, I can't imagine any scenario that her friends make or female would leave before her, hot chicks don't have that happen... Yup never.
Aside from that the rest of the story was rad. The train, the furies, reapers. Delilah , Monster, Freak... excuse my language but if you read this book "fucking" Frank and Wendi" all very cool!
This review is a bit disjointed , I'm having technical difficulties , my apologies to Mr. Poulin . This book is good. The beginning is confusing but once our revolutionary is in a tion, it becomes clear fast. Check out the book, it's good. Thanks for giving me a chance to read and review it! Clare is going now
