"The SkinWalker's Apprentice " a prequel to The Emerald Kipp series of Urban Fantasy written by Claribel Ortega was an interesting read.

The author introduces you to a modern day witch named Emerald Kipp who is literally trouble on two feet. Emerald Kipp is also a witch.

Starting of in the 80's in NYC on her 16th birthday you get the feeling that Emerald & her trendy, gothy, skateboarding , and partially willing partners in petty crimes are setting you up for the character that Enerald is going to grow into.

In a complete switch the alternating chapters are from Margo Pennyfeather also a 16 yr. old witch. That sadly is where the similarity ends. Margo is living in a settlement in the mid 1600's with her very poor family. The Pennyfearher's magical talents lay with the "Seeing" or Seer arts.

Margo's ancient yet brilliant grandmother had seen an image of an older Margo being inducted to train with the Coven. The highest honor (it would also guarantee a bit more financial stability for the hardworking but struggling Pennyweathers.

Claribel Ortega switches back and forth between narratives and doesn't really go into very much detail about some highly questionable activity at the Coven that I really was curious about! There is however a ton if detail about what current day Emerald Kipp is up to.

I'm looking forward to reading the first full length book in this series. It has all the ingredients to be a fantastic YA Urban Fantasy series. Claribel Ortega also has a seamless writing style. The transition from Emerald's p.o.v. in current day to Margo's p.o.v. in the past is fluid. The world building is also detailed enough to give a great idea of what the two young witches are living through with clarity.

The unusual way that Ortega chose to write the prequel before the first full length book was the hardest part for me to enjoy. Certain aspects if the story were left undescribed and I can only guess that that's because it's going to be a large part of the full length novel.I may be wrong here but I'm not sure exactly what being a Skinwalkers Apprentice actually entails or means in the long run?

I'm defiantly going to check out the upcoming books in this series . I love books about basically any supernatural or mythological entity.

I find it even more enchanting when it's mixed up with modern day life. In an age that can google anything and be told the how's and why's of just about any mystery topic it tickles me blue when an author can keep me locked in the suspension of disbelief for the entirety of their tale.

Mousehead & Tales gives this fledgling prequel 3 stars because I'm keeping my fingers crossed that with enough research, and the already apparent talent is storytelling that Ortega has proven this might end up being a quirky, exciting addition to the YA Urban Fantasy genre.

Jill from "Breaking The Spine" has a fantastic event every wednesday that lets us bloggers admit about the books that we.. Well in this case I CAN NOT WAIT TO READ! I have a ton:) but since I'm just trying this out I'm going to go with one that's coming out April 1st 2014!

I'll admit I'm also counting down the days for "Gods & Monsters" by Laini Taylor & "Winds of Winter" by George R.R.Martin. Though for any who read "A Song of Fire & Ice" as it came out waiting is just part of the fun! That is a complete lie! The waiting is awful!

So! If you're a fan of J.R.Wards "Blackdagger Brotherhood "series, which yes, not every book has been killer but I have a sickness where I will read an entire series, novellas and all no matter how bad it gets. You can see this in the fact that I completed the entire "Hush Hush" saga as well as the soul crushing lameness if the last "Sookie Stackhouse " novel. I'm not sure if that's True Bloods fault or if Charlaine Harris just lost the passion for those characters ? At any rate I hope that whatever book you're waiting on is coming out soon! On this day... February 15th I thought it would be a fantastic time to post a review about romance. It's not always some perfect date where after the kiss goodnight, fireworks go off & boom! You're in love. Sometimes that "happily ever after" has to be earned. Blood, sweat , and tears might just be the price.

In Trista Jaszczak's suspense crime thriller "Loverboy" it takes all that and more for the hero & heroine Charlie & Nick. The author choose to write this book with alternating point of views, going from Charlie's to Nicks. Experiencing this book from both the female & males pov gives you an interesting understanding of what's happened.

"Loverboy" is about Charlie getting kidnapped by the notorious serial killer "Loverboy" dubbed for his cruel torture and abuse of the females he captures, drugs, tortures & than kills. Charlie is the only person who has escaped with her life.

Sadly she doesn't remember much about her time with the infamous murderer. Where that's a blessing in many regards it is also making the investigation difficult. Enter Nick, a cop who has personal reasons for wanting this killer brought to justice. Nick has a sister who endured rape. Coming from a family that chooses to "Serve & Protect" he already had aspirations to become a cop. When his younger sister became the victim of a terrible crime it only made his need more profound .

Nick is the police officer put in charge of standing guard outside Charlie's hospital room. In what is a unusual choice the police department assigns Nick to become Charlie's bodyguard & protector when she is released from the hospital to go home . Worried that "Loverboy" will try to finish the job with Charlie & thinking that as Charlie heals she might remember more details of her imprisonment, and could help Nypd capture him they have Nick go undercover as her housemate.

Nick wants to make Charlie feel safe. Be able to live her life w/o looking over her shoulder all the time, get back to teaching dance, and find the joy in living that "Loverboy" has beaten out of her.

Charlie is at first shocked the police would be so insensitive to post a male cop to help her after all she's been through. The fact that he's a young, good looking, kind man doesn't even occur to her... at first. Nick's from a family that he was a lone male amongst his mother & sisters. He has a respect for woman that most men don't have ingrained in their make- up. He sees the strength in Charlie and the longer he watches and helps her get back on her feet the more he notices how brave, strong, and truley beautiful his assignment is.

Charlie goes from being leery of Nick to feeling safe and content with his continued presence. The last thing she expected to be thinking about was romance after all she'd been through. She finds herself wondering if she'll ever feel that way about any man ever again.

There are twists and turns that you'd might not see coming in this crime thriller romance. The identity of the killer has more than one shocking twist. The alternating pov's help you understand what both characters are going through while dealing with the awful crime that is rape.

Sadly I have had more than one friend who has endured this crime. It's awful to watch a beautify vibrant woman become a shell of herself when invaded this way. I thought it was very brave to tell this story. Though it was about a serial killer..besides a few chapters it did not get overly detailed with the specifics of the crime. I think it could be helpful for young adult audience's to read this book if only to be educated on what could happen to anyone. It also would appeal to fans of the psychological thriller with a bit of romance thrown in. It's also absolutely chick- lit!

So after all was read and done Mousehead and Tales gives "Loverboy" 3 1/2 stars. I'm a huge fan of Trista Jaszczak's retellings of original fairytales. This was a totally different type of book & I think that speaks to the talent of the author. Not everyone can write more than one genre well. If you haven't read anything by Trista Jaszczak I would suggest that you check out the links provided on this tour and add her to your to be read list immediately . I'll be looking forward to reading the next book she writes.

WOW! Mousehead & Tales is very happy to be taking part in the blog tour for book 2 in the "Blooming Goddess" series by YA author Tellulah Darling!

I am happy to give this book a glowing 4 stars. The first book in this series had me laughing out loud at "Sophie Blooms" p.o.v. The author has a ridiculous way of wording things that makes Greek Mythology ... a privileged boarding school with a liberal staff, a mish mash of classic characters from mythology mixed up with "nerd chic" Sophie, Theo, ( human Hannah), Kai ,Aphrodite , Gods, Goddesses , and Titans Oh my!

I find this entire series to be fantastic. Hopefully the YA audience will be interested in researching the original stories if they're not already familiar. It makes it so much fun when another epic character enters the fray that is Sophie/ Persophone's life.

I highly recommend this series to both males and females of all ages . I also dare you not to laugh out loud! I'll absolutely be following this series until it ends. Fans of Kendare Blake's "Anti- Goddess" series will eat this up. Check out all the links to get the full benefit of this virtual tour!
