I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I have given this book 4,$,$,$,$,! It was a unique take on Fae based society. I had hoped that there would be more background and time spent in Exillium. Though it wasn't hard to figure out how the high society families were based off of different types of flowers I thought it would be very interesting to no more about each families Patron and how the Fae touched families had become that way.
The story is about a Fae touched woman Cathy, a high society female from a family who's Patron is Lord Poppy ( fae). When a child from one of this level families come of age they are presented to their Fae Patron to request a boon.
The Fae touched families live as if they are still in an era where families married only for political and financial gain, not for love. Girls are given lessons on embroidery, music, poetry ect. nothing controversial. These are things that Cathy, the middle child and eldest female has always had little interest in and was also dreadful at. Tom ( her older brother) sympathized but found there was no way to aid her. Elizabeth ( Cathy's younger sister) has gleefully upstaged Cathy in everything that society in that era considered important. Her Mother voiced her disapproval constantly and her Father showed his disappointment by beating her. Sick of this life if corsets, shallow goals, and a future that promised nothing but more of the same, Cathy requests to go to University when she was presented to her families Patron Lord Poppy. This was such a rare request that it intrigued Lord Poppy and depending on the circumstance this becomes a curse and a blessing for Cathy.
Once Cathy is accepted into University and moves to Manchester she see's how different the current world is and falls in love with it...as well as a Mundane named Josh. This begins the tale if Cathy's adventures in the Split world book series .
There is a Split World website that offers free short stories that can be listened to or read for free if you check out SplitWorld.com
I enjoyed book two in the series more but am defiantly a fan of the series.
Take a moment out of your day and check out this fun and very creative world! Thanks for stopping by!
Fun fact: it seems that tea is just as important to British authors as coffee is to Americans
