I was given this book to read and review by Edelweiss.
"THE Dance of the Red Death" by Bethany Griffin is the second book in the "Masque of the Red Death" series. I would consider it in the dystopian genre.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS: after a plague has wrought havoc on a city, the rich, educated,& their family members are left.People are wearing masks that have a filtration system that will help the person wearing it nit to catch the contagion.
With a crumbling city, looting, pillaging and all basic humanity gone, the Prince controls all people left through cruelty & threats.
A odd combination of survivors are forced to work together to stay alive as well as try to save the city from complete destruction.
THE PLAYERS:
1.PRINCE PROSPERO - Tyrannical ruler of the city
2.Dr.Worth - scientist who designed the masks that protect survivors
3.Araby Worth - scientists daughter, twin of Finn, character who's pov the story is told by
4.April - niece of Prince Prospero, sister of Elliott,Araby's best friend
5.Will - love interest to Araby, employee of the debauchery club, takes care of his 2 younger siblings
6.Elliott - Prince Prospero's nephew,April's brother,Araby's love interest,revolutionary, poet
7. Kent- Will's best friend,inventor,Elliott's close friend
8. Malcontent - Religious fanatic, leader of a army of disease carrying soldiers
I gave this book 4 $$$$/****!! I really enjoyed the way this book made you feel like you were part of the group. I was tense, happy, sad, angry. I went through all the emotions that Araby was feeling as she went from a poor frightened girl at the beginning of the series to the strong yet believable woman she became.
Bethany Griffin captured my full attention and if there are more books in this series I will definitely be reading them. The story was original in a genre that has many competeting young adult authors.
This book has adventure, romance, betrayal, plot twists, something that men and women can both enjoy.
I felt a personal connection to the characters that were introduced in this series of books. That to me is a success. When you have a emotional investment in the outcome of the story it's a book and an author worth reading.Http://[email protected] recommends that you find "Dance of the Red Death"by Bethany Griffin and dive in.
