Omg!! Is it appropriate to start a review that way? Oh anyone who reads mine knows I don't give a fuck! see I even spelled the word "fuck" in a review for people to read!
I don't care:) Oh an annoying emoticon ...my pleasure is waning. So before I completely get off track I want to say I loved this book! I'm totally crushing on all of it! Even while arguing with my man, the allure of Doctor Who, & in general not being excited by ANYTHING I've read in weeks. This was awesome. So awesome in fact I'm angry that the next one isn't out yet. Oh,in my excitement I forgot to mention I was kindly given an ARC copy of this for an honest review. What is there to say? Awesome Awesome Awesomeness! It has all the classic horror character's, a 12 step program (having been in one, nicely portrayed & honestly most of the humans (if you want to be nice, they aren't so I'm not going to bother) were more "mosterous" than ANY horror flick I'd ever seen. The one's that weren't had more awful tales than Hitler. All that is besides the point. The author Jesse Peterson combined humor,pain,self-consciousness, classic horror (accurately) even Lovecraft was featured! This chick did her homework. The humanizing of certain classic monsters like the blob, the invisable man, was original.Even my slight critisisms don't merit much attention. The only one that was a bit confusing was when the point of view switched from Natalie's to Alec's. When the switch of pov occurred it threw me for a moment. However what is a momentary pause in the midst of all the fun I had reading this book. It was truly a entertaining read. I can't wait for the next one. Join the club... Read "Club Monstrosity " as soon as you can get your hands on it. This book gets $$$$$ that's right! I'm also giving it extra points for all the fun stuff I'm going to make inspired by Jesse P. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1200578.
This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. It earned $$ on the Mousehead&tales scale. This was the first in a collection of short stories about unhappy princess's. The tale was obnoxiously predictable & the attempt at "period writing" was lacking & kind of irritating. The only thing that I could say about this upcoming collection is that the stories are perfect bedtime stories. Short, happy ending, & nothing that would bring out the boogy man. Had this book been directed for the children's market I would have still thought "meh" but at least it would have been accurate. So if there are any parents or babysitters out there looking to help out a writer check out "The Melancholy Princess" by Sheela Ward available on amazon.com I posted a review of this book on my blog "Mousehead&[email protected] but I was remiss in not also posting one here.
I really enjoyed this book. It was so descriptive that I felt like I was enduring the horror that "Danny boy" & "Reed" & the rest of the character's were going through. This book would defiantly appeal to any fans of the matrix, hackers, scanner darkly etc. Though all of those are movies it just reinforces how visual the writing was. As many of Tony Bertauski 's books are fiction that will make anyone with even a hint of paranoia about conspiracy theories feel that chill that makes you feel big brother's eyes narrowing right on your face. This one is all of that discomfort & more. Shockingly the idea of the "investor's" doesn't seem unrealistic to me at all. It wouldn't surprise me at all if at some point in the not so far future people who are financially challenged, loners, trouble makers, orphans , addicts etc. were used for experiments... Or worse. That worse is just where "Annihilation of Foreverland " begins. The main character a young boy simply referred to as "Danny-boy" wakes up from a trippy dream that seems like it's that strange moment between dreaming and waking when you become semi aware of your surroundings & things seep into your dream. Like Alice falling through the rabbit hole our "Danny-boy" wakes up in a room with a strange old man not in his own home but at a facility for troubled youth who are told they are being "reprogrammed" to forget their troubled past and be cured so they can be happy positive additions to the world. You're introduced to a group of delinquent teens & very rich old men who are funding the treatment. Danny is the youngest of the guys that he's living with. They are on an island that is impossibly beautiful . Everything is to perfect. When something seems to good to be true it usually is. That lesson is taught in this book with twists, turns, & a horrible discovery that sadly ... wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't happening somewhere in this world. I would highly recommend this book. It has something for everybody . To sweeten the pot it also has a sequel coming out as well! So hurry up & read "Annihilation of Foreverland " so you'll be ready for more. Tony Bertauski also recently released "Half-skin", & a very different type of Christmas story that I enjoyed as well. If you haven't read anything by Tony Bertauski than you are missing out. To read reviews of other books by Tony as well as a ton of other authors check out Mousehead&[email protected] to get the scoop. Author extraordinaire Tony Bertauski has a sequel coming out soon to "Annihilation of Foreverland "! It was one of the most exciting books I had read last year & I'm thrilled that there is going to be more:)
I also recently reviewed "Half-Skin" , also by Tony Bertauski & again it was a suspense filled madness. The beauty of Tony's writing is that it grabs you, doesn't let go till the last page. Even after you're done your mind is still racing ! What he writes really makes you look around & think about the real deal. In a stand up & get involved type of way. It's been a long time since a book inspired those feelings. I thought it had been the ignorance of youth. Denial... I see that now. The world didn't stop having the ability & the need for people to do things to make it better, I got lazy & became complacent . Tony Bertauski 's writing will make you rethink things, look into current or "current studies" I'm thrilled that there is going to be a 2nd installment to "Annihilation of Foreverland". The minute it shows up in my mailbox I will read "Foreverland is Dead" & rush here to give you the scoop. In the meantime there are other awesome books to read. If you reading creepers find anything interesting, or authors who would like to have their book reviewed, or want to post info about it feel free to pass the info right here. - until next, or if we meet again Club Monstosity... Do monsters need 12 step programs? As a former member of a 12 step program why do they need a individualized group, half the people there are monsters, they hide their ugly well & the other ones have such awful lives, seeing a true monster made of... Well whatever they're made up would be refreshing .
I had the pleasure ( I truly mean this) to be given an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
With that out of the way I enjoyed reading this so much I finished it in one day/night. My actual review will go live tomorrow but the author Jesse Petersen. This chick nailed it with this book. I will say no more tonight because I feel that the review will say it all. “Some creatures had been made as art; others were pure utility. Vultures had been shaped in haste to clean a field of slaughter when a powerful elemental had first begun to toy with death in the new-made world. The notion of murder had been born that day, and the Djinn had fashioned vultures to spare themselves the sight of it. They’d made them out of shame and had done well to make them; vultures had never fallen out of use since”

I'm currently ravishing a Laini Taylor book called "Blavkbringer" & I'm consumed by it. Ms. Taylor's writing is so vivid that I get completely enthralled. If escapism is what you're looking for all of her books have done the trick for me. |
